Affirmology Reading Craft: The Hero's Story Standard (v1)
Captured 2026-07-03 from Jeff and Sol's deep-listen car session (2026-07-02): the Mirror v3 postmortem plus the first-10-minutes study of Sol's 72 minute wealth reading. This doc is the synthesis, the solutions, and the working spec for the next reading audio. It is written for Claude Code and for any chat generating or evaluating reading scripts. Companion doc: Affirmology_CorpusResearch_StorytellingHooks_Brief_v1.md (the paste-ready nightly corpus research brief). No em dashes.
Source material this synthesizes:
- Jeff + Sol meeting transcript "Reading feedback and improvements" (Jul 2) and their live notes on the first 10 minutes of Sol's 72 minute wealth audio (full raw text preserved in section 9 pointer below).
- Affirmology_AhHaMoves_Registry_v1.md (the 12+ aha moves, the six anchors, salience scoring). The Mirror v3 failed BECAUSE it ignored this registry.
- Affirmology_SalienceReading_FunnelConcept_v1.md (Loud/Activated/Juicy/Wanted, the 10 minute bonus reading concept).
- Affirmology_RetentionPsychology_Playbook_v1.md (open loops, identity CTAs, variable reward).
- CLAUDE OUTPUTS/Affirmology/Affirmology_WealthCodes_OracleReadings_v1.md (the agentic wealth readings whose craft standard the audios were built from).
1. THE UNIFYING THEME (product-wide, non-negotiable)
Every Affirmology output tells the hero's story of the customer. Readings, Soul Songs, emails, the PDF report, the app, the corpus lens. All of it.
The listener must come away feeling:
1. Seen. "How did it know." Their real lived patterns named in plain, specific language.
2. Epic. They are the hero of a story with tension, drama, and destiny. Not a list of placements. "It made me feel like an epic human."
3. Meaning. Their uniqueness has purpose. Their challenges and wounds have purpose. Nothing about them is random or broken.
4. A path. There is a way to grow and transcend, and their own blueprint is reaching for exactly that.
Test for every script: if you removed the person's name, would this still read like the opening chapters of an epic biography of one specific person? If it reads like a textbook walk through chart components, it fails.
2. WHAT WENT WRONG WITH MIRROR v3 (the postmortem)
Sol's Mirror v3 walked the chart component by component: sun sign, rising, moon, house, hop to Human Design, type, profile, lines, next system. Four generic sentences per item, then on to the next. The specific failures, in Jeff and Sol's words:
- Checklist structure, no synthesis. "What is each ingredient in the cake" instead of "why do these ingredients together produce this specific person." No cross-system convergence (aha move #1, our signature move, absent).
- No ahas, no payoff. The whole reading structure was supposed to be BUILT on the aha registry. It was not. Nothing landed as "how did it know," nothing was promised, nothing paid off.
- Too fast, too thin. Four sentences per topic, then gone. Sol was still trying to figure out how one thing applied to her life when it had already moved on. She had to rewind and lost her place. Then it repeated things she already understood while glossing over things she did not.
- Naked jargon. "Your Gene Key X moves from this shadow to this gift" with no lived description. Jeff's rule: NOBODY cares about the key as a title. They care about what it means to them. Describe the lived pattern FIRST ("you are constantly judging everything, sometimes it is discernment, sometimes you beat yourself up"), THEN name the chart source as proof, THEN promise the transformation.
- Abstract single metaphors. One metaphor picked at random that the person may not slot into, instead of multiple options ("in relationships this looks like X, in business like Y, with your kids like Z") that let the listener find themselves.
- No context. A human reader asks "what part of that lands?" and goes deeper with the answer. Our reading had no intake context and did not compensate with multi-domain examples.
- Monotone delivery. No mood changes, no crescendo, no passion, no pauses, no breath instructions. Not the voice of someone telling a child an epic story.
- No hooks or rehooks. Nothing kept attention. Nothing created the curiosity gap. Nothing said "in a minute I am going to tell you how your biggest challenge becomes your biggest breakthrough."
Verdict: some component-by-component education may have a place in an explicit "teach me my Gene Keys" learning path, but it is NOT a reading, and even then it moved too fast.
3. WHAT THE WEALTH READINGS DID RIGHT (the deep-listen catalog)
From the first 10 minutes of Sol's 72 minute wealth audio. This is the exact type of talking our readings must have. Every trait below is a repeatable move:
- Epic book opening. It opened like a novel: a summary of her life with its tensions and drama, "this whole journey has been leading to this one thing, and now you are ready to finally carry it." Past, present, future told as a hero's quest.
- The sky on the day you were born. It described what the sky and charts were saying the day she was born in El Paso. Cosmic, cinematic, specific to her.
- Sets up why it matters before what it is. Each topic is framed: here is what we are about to look at and why you should care. Then it takes its time.
- Narrative paragraphs, not bullet recitation. Goes from here to here to here to flesh a thing out fully. Layered depth: general statement, then a layer deeper, then how it shows up in life, then how to use it.
- Descriptive AND inspirational one-liners that become affirmations. "You are not wired for a salary. You are wired for a movement." Specific, seen, epic, usable. Sol immediately took it as permission.
- Fresh visual symbols for known things. She knows everything about being an Aquarius, but "rivers converging to create something new" and "you are not a candle lit in a row, you are the lamp everyone gathers around" gave her a tangible form she had never seen. Symbols are the subconscious's native language and become memory anchors.
- "And here is what that means." After anything that could sound generic or poetic, it steps down into the specific and the applicable. Meaning, then mechanism, then application.
- Multiple slots, not one guess. When it lists what a house governs or where a pattern shows up, it gives five or six options so the listener picks where they fit, instead of betting everything on one metaphor.
- Contrast as engine. Low road vs high road. What others do vs what you do. "Everyone goes to the river looking for the same piece of driftwood; you go somewhere else and find it your way." Contrast is great storytelling AND shows chart choice (the same placement lived at shadow or gift level).
- Repeated structures form a familiar pattern. The low road / high road treatment recurred across placements, so by the second use Sol knew how to extract value from it. Repeatable segment shapes teach the listener how to listen.
- Salience callouts. "This Black Moon Lilith is the single most particular thing in this chart." Then: "so I want you to pause and really pay attention, take a breath." It ranks, it does not just enumerate.
- Pause and breath instructions. "Take a deep breath. Your chart has been having a conversation with itself about how value wants to move through a body like yours." These are both sacred pacing AND re-engagement (if you drifted, the instruction pulls you back).
- Lifestyle prescriptions. Not just insight: "you must build receiving into every relationship, every transaction." A practice she can carry.
- Ordinary-day anchoring. "What can you be devoted to on a regular Tuesday morning?" The mundane specificity ("Tuesday morning") makes it real and memorable.
- Vocal passion arc. The voice built to a crescendo in the meaningful passages. Mood changes like a storyteller reading to a child. Never monotone.
- Real-world domain references. Confidence, income, visibility, marketing. It kept touching the actual furniture of her life.
Emotional bottom line (Sol): "I feel like the hero. This is what I was supposed to do." Jeff: "They want to hear the story of their epic life." Both listened to their wealth audios twice and took notes. That is the retention bar.
3b. WHY the wealth readings were superior (the causal analysis, Jeff's question 2026-07-03)
Comparing how each artifact was built, four ingredients stacked. Context is only one of them:
- A lens (the biggest factor). The wealth readings had a QUESTION (wealth) that forced synthesis: every placement had to answer "what does this mean for how money moves through this person," so the reading argued a thesis (Merchant-King; depth not volume) instead of walking components. The Mirror had no lens, so it defaulted to the chart's own table of contents. RULE: every reading gets a lens. Use the person's stated question when there is one; otherwise use salience scoring to pick the loudest theme and NAME it as the lens in the opening ("this is a reading about the one conversation your whole chart keeps having").
- Context. The wealth work sat on the standing Wealth Context (pinned KB entries seeded from the WealthCodes docs: the real situation, Affirmology, the funding season, Sol's worth-wound). That is why it could reference confidence, income, visibility, marketing. Context multiplies specificity, but context without a lens still yields a chart walk, and a lens without context still lands (the reading knew nothing about Tuesday mornings; it just wrote concretely). Grow context via intake, chatbot, and voice notes. When no user context exists, CREATE OUR OWN (Jeff, 2026-07-03): derive a working context from the chart itself (the salience-scored loudest theme becomes the lens), speak in concrete projected life-domains (relationships, business, kids, money, a regular Tuesday) so the listener supplies the fit, and anchor in universal specifics rather than abstractions. Lack of intake data is never an excuse for genericness.
- Agentic depth as source. The long readings drew on the corpus-grounded oracle readings (Lakshmi, Agastya: mechanism-level, cross-system, progressions, dasha), i.e. the WealthCodes docs (
CLAUDE OUTPUTS/Affirmology/Affirmology_WealthCodes_OracleReadings_v1.md, _JeffAndSol_v1.md, _Synthesis_v2.md). The Mirror generated from raw chart data in one flat pass. RULE: readings generate through the council layer, with an oracle-reading intermediate, never one flat prompt over chart JSON.
- Longform storyteller form. 72 min at Storyteller pace allowed setup, layers, contrast, crescendo. The Mirror's word budget forced 4 sentences per topic. The fix at 10-12 min is NOT more topics, it is fewer (the Big 3) with the same per-topic room (~3 min each) the wealth reading gave.
Where the actual 72-min audios live (recovered 2026-07-03): they exist only as MP3s on R2, never as stored scripts: https://media.affirmology.ai/library/jeff_WealthReading_full_clean.mp3 and https://media.affirmology.ai/library/sol_WealthReading_full_clean.mp3 (from the 2026-06-24 "Your Master Wealth Reading, full (72 min)" emails; also an attachment JeffParkerLove_WealthReading_full_clean.mp3 on Jeff's email; Sol's library email 2026-06-26 links hers). Cowork is transcribing both to Affirmology_WealthReading_Transcript_{Jeff,Sol}_v1.md. The WealthCodes docs above are the source-material layer and remain valuable reference regardless of the transcripts.
4. HOOKS AND REHOOKS (the attention system for every reading)
Attention spans are short. Great YouTubers hook, then re-hook every few minutes with a new promise. The casino principle: certainty of context plus unpredictability of what comes next. Rules:
- Open with the strongest hook. The most undeniable, confirmable thing screaming from all the charts (aha registry: lead the demo with the core signature; "the secret they never said").
- Open loops with a curiosity gap, phrased as lived experience. The formula: "In a minute I am going to tell you how [your felt, described challenge] becomes [the specific breakthrough]." NOT "we will explore your Gene Key 33." Example that works: "Something about you is that you are constantly judging everything. Sometimes it is discernment, sometimes you beat yourself up seeing every flaw. Stay with me, because you are about to hear how that exact quality becomes your integrity, and why it has been pointing at your gift all along." The brain has to close that loop.
- The polarity conundrum re-hook. Promise the paradox: "I am about to show you how your selfishness becomes the most selfless thing you ever do." A contradiction the mind cannot leave open.
- Payoff, then immediately open the next loop. Sometimes open the next loop right before or right after a payoff lands. Always another reason to stay.
- Pause-and-pay-attention beats as rehooks. "Pause. Take a breath. What comes next is the shift that changes everything." Sacred framing, retention function.
- Promise the path forward. Tease later sections and later audios. End of a 10-12 minute reading closes SOME loops and deliberately leaves one open toward the next audio (never a hard CTA, an open loop).
- Ethical frame (keep this). We turn attention mechanics toward transformation. The addictive quality gets people re-listening to what aligns them with their blueprint instead of doom scrolling. Hooks serve the hero, always. The listener is always the hero.
5. THE SEGMENT TEMPLATE (Sol's structure, now standard)
Every topic/segment in any reading, no matter what it covers, delivers this chain. This is the repeatable structure that lets the brain retain and prevents "generic, ignore it":
- The felt pattern, described. Pattern-first, placement-second (aha move #4). Plain language, specific nouns, multiple domain examples (relationships, business, kids, money, a regular Tuesday) so they slot in.
- The name and the source. NOW name the placement/key/gate as proof. "That is your Virgo Sun in the 8th house talking."
- What it means, a layer deeper. Mechanism. Contrast (low road / high road, others vs you). A fresh visual symbol they can keep.
- An example or application for their life. How to use it, a practice, a lifestyle prescription.
- The affirmation. Distill the segment into a first-person line ("I am not wired for a salary, I am wired for a movement") and repeat it, up to three times. This is the hypnotic install and the takeaway.
Optional per segment: a pause/breath beat, a rehook into the next segment.
6. THE NEXT READING AUDIO (working spec for Mirror v4 / the beta readings)
- Length: 10-12 minutes, super good, leave them wanting more. Depth over comprehensiveness. Fewer topics, fleshed out in layers. Comprehensive is the enemy right now. (Jeff, restated 2026-07-03: keep the topic list SHORTER and go WAY deeper on each. When in doubt, cut a topic and give its minutes to the ones that remain.)
- Content: THE BIG 3. The three salient things SCREAMING from all the charts (salience scoring from the aha registry: Loud + Activated + Juicy, weight Wanted when we have intake). Built on cross-system convergence wherever it exists ("four systems built centuries apart all describe this same thing in you").
- Opening (first 60-90 seconds): the epic frame. The sky on the day they were born, the one-paragraph hero's summary of their life's tension and becoming, and the hook: the promise of the Big 3, each phrased as lived experience with a curiosity gap.
- Body: each of the Big 3 gets ~2.5-3.5 minutes using the segment template (section 5), with a rehook bridging into the next.
- Close: re-state the three affirmations, one open loop pointed at the next audio ("there is a fourth thing in your chart, and it is the one I most want to show you"), no hard CTA.
- Pacing: a touch slower overall, more pause between sentences, explicit breath beats. (Player-side speed toggle is the better lever than re-rendering; add slow/fast control to the player later.)
- Delivery: mood arc required. Passion crescendos on the meaning passages. Storyteller-to-a-child warmth. Never monotone.
- Never: the component checklist walk. Never naked system jargon before the lived description. Never one lonely metaphor where three domain examples could let them slot in.
- Context: until the chatbot/intake context loop exists, compensate with multi-domain examples. MEDIUM TERM: move toward context capture (short intake, chatbot, voice notes) because context is likely part of the missing key; a human reader goes deeper by asking "what part of that lands."
6b. Rollout notes (Jeff's plan, 2026-07-02)
- Do not push more duds to the inbox pipeline. Reconfigure the reading structure before the next batch generates.
- Frame publicly as: beta signups open July 4 (rules/parameters to agree to), a couple more audios every few days, real reading cadence starts ~Friday July 10. Not announced as a delay.
- Beta testers must taste GOOD ones first or we lose the people who will shape the product. Duds are survivable once they are invested.
- Road trip testing: Jeff + Sol will test context-specific audios and voice-note feedback in while traveling. The feedback loop (good/bad per structure, structures to never repeat) is the machine-learning heart of the engine. The engine is incredibly capable; it needs direction through structure testing and feedback.
7. ACTION ITEMS FOR CLAUDE CODE (the build list)
- Halt the current Mirror batch (
.mirror_hold already holds Colin; extend the hold to everyone until the structure is rebuilt). Do not send more component-walk Mirrors.
- Rebuild the Mirror prompt/structure to this spec: Big 3 via salience scoring, epic opening, segment template (section 5), hooks/rehooks (section 4), 10-12 min, close with an open loop. Wire the aha registry moves in explicitly (the previous build demonstrably did not use them).
- Recover and store the exemplar transcripts. The two long wealth audio scripts (Jeff's and Sol's 72 minute wealth readings) are NOT in the project folder (searched 2026-07-03; the "not wired for a salary" line appears nowhere in the workspace). Pull them from wherever they were generated (cloud Studio renders / R2 / the generating chat) and save them into the project as
Affirmology_WealthReading_Transcript_Jeff_v1.md and Affirmology_WealthReading_Transcript_Sol_v1.md. They are the canonical style exemplars for reading voice (STYLE ONLY, never content, per the shared-style rule).
- Feed this doc + the aha registry + the exemplar transcripts into the reading generation path as the craft standard (style is shared, content comes only from the person's own chart and corpus).
- QC gate for readings (script level): before render, verify: no naked jargon before lived description; at least one cross-system convergence; each segment ends in a repeated affirmation; at least two rehooks present; opening contains the hero frame + the Big 3 promise; length in the 10-12 min word band; no component-checklist pattern (reject any script whose section order mirrors the chart data structure).
- Pacing: render at the slightly slower pace with inter-sentence pauses; plan the player speed toggle so pacing preference does not require re-renders.
- Log structure feedback. Every tested reading gets a structure name + Jeff/Sol/beta feedback recorded (Atlas metrics), so bad structures are never repeated and good ones become named templates.
8. FOR THE NIGHTLY CORPUS RESEARCHER
The full paste-ready research brief is Affirmology_CorpusResearch_StorytellingHooks_Brief_v1.md (same folder). Topics: hero's journey and story structure, hooks/rehooks/open loops, YouTube and short-form retention science, persuasion and curiosity psychology, oral storytelling and hypnotic pacing, cold-reading specificity craft. Findings feed the reading structures and, where applicable (pacing, loops, symbols, affirmation repetition), the Soul Song audios too.
9. RAW SOURCE
The full car-session transcript (Mirror postmortem + wealth audio deep-listen notes) was pasted into the 2026-07-03 Cowork chat by Jeff. Sections 2-4 of this doc preserve every distinct observation from it. If the verbatim transcript is ever needed, it lives in that chat session and in Jeff's meeting notes ("Reading feedback and improvements", Jul 2).
